6 Success Tips

1. Succeeding at Anything Takes Patience

Success takes time.  It is a process that doesn’t happen overnight, although it may sometimes appear that way.

We are not born with patience.  Just like it takes time to travel to a destination, when you have a goal in mind you are working towards, it takes time to succeed in reaching your goal.  Patience is required as you make progress toward reaching your goals.  As you continue to take consistent steps forward to your goal, you can learn patience as you learn to enjoy the process of success.

2. “By the Inch It’s a Cinch. By the Yard It’s Hard”

Successfully reaching any goal or destination results from taking a series of steps.  If you consistently take appropriate action toward any goal, you can and will arrive if you keep moving forward.

This reminds me of the funny scene from the movie ‘What About Bob?’ where Bob takes the suggestion of ‘taking baby steps’ literally and physically does baby steps down the hall and into the elevator, etc.  It’s a funny and powerful metaphor for how to achieve anything in life.

3. What If I Fail?

You will experience setbacks as you work toward a goal.  You might even have a big fall metaphorically speaking.  If you trip and fall on the way to your goal, get up and keep moving forward.  The only way we fail is if we stay down and stop moving forward.  The key to success in anything in life is to get back up and keep going.  We all make mistakes that can hurt big time.  Do the best you can to forgive your self and continue on your path.

4. Have Fun With the Process

If you are building a business, learn to find enjoyment in the little tasks you do each day.  This will invigorate you to keep going no matter what challenges may arise.  Focus on doing each task as best you can. Find satisfaction in accomplishing the little things and step by step you will enjoy the process of building your business to a well functioning machine.

Find creative ways of making the process fun for you.  This can be a powerful motivator that can propel you to any goal.  You can give yourself little rewards as you reach certain milestones on the way to your larger goal.

5. Stick With it

No matter what, if you keep moving towards reaching your goals, you will attain them if you don’t give up.  You may decide to adjust your goal along the way if you find it needs tweaking.  Keep making forward progress and you will achieve small successes along the way to greater success.

6. Define Your Success

Everyone’s view of success is different because, we are all individuals with different personalities, life experiences, values, goals, etc.  How I define success for me will likely be different than how you define success.

It is good to define what success is to you.  If you don’t pick a destination on the map you may never get there.  As soon as you define what success is to you, you can starting making steps toward it.

As a suggestion, you might start with happiness, since so much more good comes from a genuinely happy state of being. If you can find happiness/gratitude/acceptance within you, this is where all true success comes from.  (At least, that’s my opinion.  Learn a little more on that in a previous post.)

Thanks for this post. I like all your tips. I think we must define what success means to us before we can be successful. For me, this is right up there with patience:-)

  2. I’m not sure what exactly has led to my success but I attribute a lot of it to self-confidence that I can success and I think that leads to a lot of what you were saying — persisting even when things are hard.
