Have Fun Doing What You Love

This is likely pretty obvious if you already have a successful business or maybe even a failed business. It’s easy to get excited when starting a business. If it’s something you are not passionate about (or at least enjoy doing), you will probably fizzle out at some point and lose interest.

What Do You Love Doing?

For a while, I thought I wanted to exit the window cleaning industry, so I started trying out various network marketing companies and barely made a dime of income. I could say that it was a pointless waste of a year or so of my life. Presently I would say that I was looking for something that I could enjoy doing and make some money at.

Going on that temporary detour helped me realize how much I do enjoy cleaning windows, siding and gutters for people in my community. I get real satisfaction knowing I am restoring peoples home environment to its former beauty. I’ve realized as I gradually scale up my business that I love what I do. It kind of took me years to realize this. And I didn’t always love cleaning windows. I really started enjoying it a lot more when I went on my own and started my own business.

Since I have more of an entrepreneur type personality, I always found it challenging working for employers. So after years of working for companies as both an employee and a subcontractor, I decided to take a leap of faith and start my own business. I’ve seen rapid positive growth in the business and haven’t looked back.

What do you love doing? Is there a service you really enjoy doing that you could offer in your community? Could you use spare time learning a new skill that you truly enjoy? All you need is a computer with internet connection and some time and determined focus to learn the basics of virtually anything.

Learn to Love What You Do

In my situation, I didn’t always love cleaning windows. It was really hard working for someone else cleaning hundreds of window panes a day. It was invaluable training though. I didn’t know where it would someday take me.

When I left that employer, I purchased a few of my own tools and began subcontracting my skills to various companies. It gradually became easier to clean windows and a little more enjoyable as time passed.

Then I began listening to personal development audiobooks and starting really working on improving my attitude and outlook on life. As I gradually changed my outlook, I began to love cleaning windows for a living. Now I love what I do because not only does it make people happy (my main intention), it also provides a nice income for my family.

Make it Fun

Have you ever noticed how excited and curious children get when they observe something for the first time? Things are really exciting to them because it’s all new to them.

Sometimes every day tasks can become boring and monotonous. Even jobs, whether you work for an employer or for yourself, can seem dull and boring. My suggestion to combat this is to be like children and find a way to make it fun for you.

Find ways to challenge yourself. See how fast you can accomplish a task. If you work alone, pop in some ear buds and listen to uplifting music or better yet, listen to some empowering audiobooks. I listened to personal development audiobooks like a voracious animal nearly every day for around 2-3 years and it has changed my life for the better.

My personality type tends to be a little extreme, so I don’t recommend over doing anything. Definitely find ways you can make everyday things more fun and exciting and you will find it easier to consistently take action moving towards your goals and dreams.

Define Some Goals and Dreams

As you learn to love doing what you do (whatever that might be), it’s good to find and set a goal that you can move towards. Be sure it’s something that gets you excited to take action towards and inspires you to succeed in building your business. Enthusiasm is a key success principle in business and in life.

Next you can find a dream that pulls you toward your goal. Be sure your dream is something larger than you and not simply a financial goal. A dream might even be thought of as your legacy.

Practice This Daily

If you can make a habit of making ordinary things a little more fun, you may find life a little more enjoyable each day. As you make work more fun and enjoyable you may learn to love it. And you might discover that you don’t want to do what your doing anymore and it’s time to move on to some other line of work or service.

This simple process of finding ways of making everyday things more fun and enjoyable can ignite your passion. You may discover what you love doing and then begin to offer it to the world and make a nice income in the process (like I have).

  1. I so relate to this chain of thoughts.I myself am switching over from a rigorous corporate work background to creating my niche on the writers block….coz that’s something I always loved doing and can imagine growing old doing :)…..your post makes me happy for the decision I took!

  2. It’s so true, if you don’t at least enjoy what you’re doing, you’re going to end up resenting it and hating it and you’ll end up miserable. Thanks for posting! 🙂
