Go the Extra Mile

There may be a lot of companies in your city that offer the same services as you. Remember then when serving your customers it’s the little things that make all the difference. Practicing these suggestions can potentially create repeat customers and referrals for you business.

Always Clean Up After Yourself

I make a point of always leaving a clients place cleaner than when I have arrived. If I’m vacuuming their gutters, some slop inevitably always ends up on the ground. So before I pack up, I always strive to rinse down any spots where I may have made a mess.

Depending on what kind of services you offer, making a habit of always cleaning up after a job, will speak volumes about you and your business, not only to the home owner, but also to their neighbors as well.

Give a Little Bonus

In some instances I may give little extra service to my clients depending on the size of the call and the person’s perceived financial situation. If it’s a small job, I may not throw in any extras. Yet if it appears the client is stretching their budget to hire me for this service, I will find a little something I can add in for no extra charge.

Making this a habit will not only potentially create referrals for your business, it can endear your clients to you and they may be more willing to share a testimonial/review with you for your website. (Testimonials go a long way with getting new clients.)

If I’m doing a large job, sometimes my client may ask if I can clean a hard to reach spot that is not a part of the quote. What do I say? “I’d be happy to take care of that for you.” It doesn’t take me much time and effort since I’m cleaning other things in that area anyways, and the customer always appreciates it when you throw in a little bonus for no charge.

Make It a Habit

When you make going there extra mile a habit in your business and life by being a service minded person, people will notice and your business will likely grow. You will have more self respect and by extension your clients will respect and appreciate you more.

When practicing this, you must be sincere and not do this begrudgingly, otherwise people will notice and you may do more harm than good. If you struggle with doing a little extra, you could try viewing it from your customers perspective. They are spending their earnings on a service you’re providing and so they would expect that you do a great job.

Going the extra mile when serving your customers demonstrates appreciation for them. Realize that it may go unnoticed, so you can let them know when you are done that you “did a little extra for no additional charge.” They will usually thank you and you can ask them if they would be willing to share a positive testimonial on your website. They may or may not.

By making a habit of doing a little more than you are paid for, you are setting your business up to be a success. This is a simple method of creating positive future growth for your business.

I notice also when you go the extra mile your customers (like yesterday) stand outside and watch you and I often hear comments like ‘Wow I need some extra business cards to leave in the neighborhood’ – or – ‘I only hire clean looking, clean cut, handymen for my home, less sketchy, and seeing Will very clean and very organized, he will be my first go to guy for services’. I hear a lot of comments like these as I work with Will.
