3 Steps to Create Videos for YouTube

A great way of marketing your services online is by sharing videos on YouTube. Virtually anyone with a smartphone, camera or computer who has an internet connection can create and share a video online. YouTube is a great place to begin to feature your services to your marketplace. YouTube videos are usually featured in search results on google and this is a great way to drive traffic to your website.

1. Ideas For Videos

It’s always good to get the creative juices flowing by being in action doing the service you offer. Many of my videos are recorded by myself on my smartphone showing and explaining what I do and the results people can expect when they hire me for any of my services. Usually I feature one type of service in a video.

In other videos I either set up with a tripod or have someone else hold the cam while I work on a real job site. Sometimes I will record with a GoPro Hero 3 to capture my view while I do the work.

I have found that showcasing my services allows people to see what they can expect if they were to hire me and that I am a real person. Anyone can hire the big companies and have a minimum wage worker come out to do the work. I’ve noticed that home owners like to connect with someone who has the skills, experience, and a pleasant personality.

Although this blog focuses primarily on starting a window cleaning business, I’m sure you can brainstorm some ideas for videos featuring a variety of services no matter what business you may have.  All it takes is a little thought, time, and creativity. Be sure to write down any ideas that come to you, so you can revisit them later (if you’re busy), otherwise you will probably forget the idea.

Now go record a video showing your talents and personality. It doesn’t have to be perfect.  Just be yourself, be authentic and real. People will connect with who you are and want to hire you.  After you have done this, you can move on to the next step.

2. Edit Your Video

If you don’t have video editing software or simply want to publish your video without any edits, you can skip this step and go the step three.

You can usually find video editing software online for free. If you have a smartphone, you might use the YouTube Capture app. It features a few music tracks you can add to your video. You can also add multiple video clips to make a longer video. The nice thing about this app is you can upload directly to your YouTube channel when it’s ready to publish.

Personally I prefer to use iMovie on my iPad to edit my videos. It is a free program when you have an iPad or Mac computer. You can easily trim clips and piece them together. You can also adjust the volume of your video, as well as any music you add. You can also publish directly to your YouTube channel directly from the app.

These are just two of many free applications you can find to edit your video.  If you prefer a different program, definitely go with the one you prefer.  You might try many different ones before landing on one that you really like and find easy to use.

3. Publish Your Video to YouTube

There are many more video free video publishing sites online other than YouTube.  I’m focusing on YouTube in this article, because YouTube is a great place to get noticed by Google and you can get higher page rank on Google searches. Publishing to YouTube is great for SEO (Search Engine Optimization), which can help you increase your website page rank as an added bonus.

Once you have made a video, you can either upload it to YouTube as is (which is what I used to do in the beginning), or you can edit it and add some background music (be sure you have the copyrights to the music you feature or YouTube could potentially remove your video and/or shut down your account).  Make sure you have copied your video from the recording device to your computer before uploading.

In order to publish your video on YouTube, you need to have a Google account.  A good way to get started (if you don’t already have a Google account) is to create a gmail account.  A gmail account will be your Google account and you can create a blogger blog, use Google drive and forms (great tools for your business), and you can create a YouTube channel in addition to many other services that are available mostly for free.

Once you have your Google account set up, you can now use it to login to your YouTube channel.  After logging in, get to know your way around by clicking on various menus.  If you click on your user account (usually in the top right corner on a computer screen), you can click on ‘video manager’.  Once the video manager page has opened, click on the upload button (usually in the top right corner just left of your username), and upload your video of choice to YouTube.

Set Goals and Have Fun

After you have done this process once, it will be easier the second time, third, and fourth, etc.  The next step is to set a goal for producing videos. You might start with producing 1 video every 1-3 months.  Or you could challenge yourself to learn faster by doing it once a week.

The more you get into action creating videos and sharing them, the easier it will become and you will start to see an increase in clients streaming to your business looking to hire you for your services.  If you have fun with this, you will find it easier to continue creating new videos and in time, you could even choose to monetize your channel.

Although this article is mainly intended for people who are new to this, I hope you found some value in it no matter what your experience/skill level is. If you liked it, please hit one of the share buttons and/or leave a comment below. As always, thanks for reading.
