How to Become an Experienced and Skilled Window Cleaner

The 3 Steps to Becoming a Skilled Window Cleaner

Step 1. Master the Basics

When learning anything new, it is important to master the fundamentals of what you are learning. It is kind of like learning martial arts. Martial artists are always training on the few basic moves and doing them over and over and over again.

This is a key concept to reaching new levels of skill. It all begins with learning and mastering a few basic steps. I’m sure you have at one time witnessed a skilled window cleaner at work and were amazed at how fast they moved and cleaned the window. This only come from the experience of having done the same basic moves thousands and thousands of times.

When first beginning to learn to clean windows, you want to watch someone who has years of experience in washing glass. Be sure to pick someone who has mastered the basics of window cleaning. They will move a lot faster than a beginner can.

When you are just starting to practice cleaning windows and glass, you want to move slow at first. As you learn and remember the few basic steps to cleaning glass, you can gently increase your speed.

Step 2. Learn skills from experienced window cleaners

When you are first starting to learn how to wash windows, it’s good to find a mentor. I view a mentor as someone who is where you would someday like to be and has been where you are now.

A mentor in this case would be someone whose skill you admire and respect, are willing to learn from their experience and emulate their moves until you reach their skill level and exceed them. You may have 1 or many mentors in many different fields of life and business that you respect and learn from.

In this regard we’re focussed on finding a mentor who is a skilled and experienced window cleaner. It’s important to find someone you can relate to, who has skill, the ability to demonstrate his skills on video (or in person), and preferably someone who has been ‘doing it’ themselves for years.

There are many, many videos by experienced window cleaners of all different skills levels and calibers on YouTube. You could simply do a search for a window cleaner on YouTube who has training videos and begin watching and learning from their videos. You may wish to subscribe to various window cleaners channels to see more videos as they upload them.

Step 3. Train, train, train, practice, practice, practice

Once you have learned the basic steps of window cleaning, you must physical do it on a consistent and regular basis in order to gain the experience necessary to become a skilled window cleaner.

I would highly recommend finding a job working for a window company as you will get a ton of experience in the field cleaning various types of windows and frames. Stick with it for a year if you can as this will give you invaluable experience and the hands on training you need to become an experienced and skilled window cleaner.

You can practice cleaning your own windows where you live for more experience. You might even take your equipment to a commercial area on a Sunday when they are closed and practice over and over again cleaning the outside glass, till you feel more comfortable with your skill level.

As you find yourself beginning to clean glass effortlessly, your can then begin to increase you speed. Begin to challenge yourself to see how fast you can safely clean a row of windows. See how many you can wet and then dry. Do time challenges to see how fast you can complete a job.

As you clean more and more and more windows, your speed will increase dramatically as long as you continue to Master the Basics. Remember to always, always, always be working on step one.
